Hotel Taj : icon of whose India ?

This Article is by Gnani Sankaran- Tamil writer, Chennai.

Watching at least four English news channels surfing from one another during the last 60 hours of terror strike made me feel a terror of another kind. The terror of assaulting one’s mind and sensitivity with cameras, sound bites and non-stop blabbers. All these channels have been trying to manufacture my consent for a big lie called – Hotel Taj the icon of India.
Whose India, Whose Icon ?

It is a matter of great shame that these channels simply did not bother about the other icon that faced the first attack from terrorists – the Chatrapathi Shivaji Terminus (CST) railway station. CST is the true icon of Mumbai. It is through this railway station hundreds of Indians from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Tamilnadu have poured into Mumbai over the years, transforming themselves into Mumbaikars and built the Mumbai of today along with the Marathis and Kolis. Mumbai Terror – My Resolution

November 26th 2008 remains as one of the scariest days in my life. Living so very far from Mumbai, I can feel the shivers that the terrorist created. It was one of the most terrifying moments in most of the people’s life. There are millions of people reporting about the tragedy but none of them talk about the solution to it. If there is any then it is just filled with anger because of loss of near and dear ones and the pain the terrorists inflicted upon the entire nation. We were just mute spectators. This should not happen again and if that has to become a reality then it is our job to do such a thing.

I believe that in a home, if your parents are not having any healthy habits then the chances of you learning any healthy habits is very bleak. I know it is not impossible but it is difficult. Similarly for a country the leader should be responsible and sensible to lead the people from within. It is from these leaders we learn how to rule the nation and they give out wrong signals. Other than that nothing significant in life.. I got closer to grave by an year.. :). I am now 25 years young.. From today I shall be back with my thoughts.. Keep checking..

Bangalore Traffic Woes

Bangalore, the garden city is now a city without a garden. The gardens are making way for the roads and the roads are filled with vehicles which has become a mess. Commuting in Bangalore is really a tiring affair and gruesome at times. To travel 30 KMs some 10 years back would have taken 40 minutes anywhere within city limits now to travel the same distance one requires more than 90 minutes. I am not exaggerating, that is how the traffic has grown and that is how the Bangalore’s Traffic Control has progressed. Everyone complains about the same. The thing is that they don’t realize that they are a part of it and they have to do something about it and not just keep complaining about it.

I used to live in Malleshwaram, which is where my entire childhood was spent. I lived for more than 16 years there. It was a wonderful place. I used to play cricket on the roads. Now I don’t see a single soul playing on the roads since you can’t afford to do so with the current stupid traffic situation. I know the roads are not meant to play cricket. What I mean is, ten years back things were like you can play on the road and now you can’t even drive on the road properly, you can imagine the amount of vehicles plying on the road.

I hope you have heard of blogactionday. On 15th October, it was about Poverty and about 13k bloggers around the world wrote about Poverty on a single day. It was overwhelming that all the people think about a single topic. It was really nice to see so many people share their views on Poverty. I read many blogs that participated on blogactionday. Some of them were interesting and some were not all that great. I did not think much about the Poverty and struggles since I feel it is all part of the game.

I know to an extent what Poverty is, what poverty can do to people. But that should not make anyone lose their dreams. I have a positive attitude towards life. I have seen people struggle and become financially stable. They have come up from poverty to become one of the few wealthy guys. It is nice to see them and learn from them. Life throws you many challenges and it is up to you to handle it. It is your life and it is you who decides what can happen to your life, if you lose the game you can’t blame on someone else except you. Continue reading
