House Rent Allowances

The maximum amount of House Rent Allowances (H.R.A.) permitted to be enjoyed by an employee tax-free is up to 50% of the salary in the metros namely Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai and 40% in other cities.

If you notice carefully, there is a clause of “up to” and not flat. This was quite interesting to me when I figured that out. Why not keep it flat? The following is the reason. The government wants some amount of money to be paid by the employee from his pocket which does comes back to exchequer. According to 2A section of the Income Tax Act, the employee has to bear a minimum of 10% of the salary as Rent so that he can get the full benefit of 50% or 40% depending on where he is located. Paycheck

Paycheck is so very important for every person who is in job. The person in job gets the paycheck at the end of every month for the struggle that he has put and the work he has accomplished. The guy who works hard for money eagerly waits for month end to get the paycheck. He will be waiting desperately. The month begins with a nice 4-5 digit salary and by the end of the month it comes 2-3 digit balance. Most of the employees in the firms have a similar lifestyle. Continue reading

Satyam Employee's Mail

It was a mail sent to me by my friend. Thought of sharing it.

*****

Its written by a Satyam employee:

At a time when almost 90% of my Satyam friends are cribbing about the fraud and betrayal by Ramalinga Raju, I have a slightly different opinion. It’s bold of me to write this in black and white but this comes straight from my heart and experience.

Let me start by quoting an example of 2006. Most of my friends were unemployed with 50-60% plus marks in BTech, with a degree from an average University and hunting madly for a job. Whether people accept it today or not but the truth remains that Satyam was the ONLY saviour and the only mass recruiter who was ready to accept students who had back logs but had cleared them and also it did not put a very strict minimum marks criterion. And this was true not only for my small college at Lucknow but also those across India . Satyam is the fourth largest in IT in India. Looking at India’s population I really want to thank Raju for giving some 54000 Indians jobs atleast for all these years . He was the reason for the revival of confidence and the reason for the bread and butter for many a families. Continue reading

Working for Money

In my previous post I had mentioned about not working for money. In this post I just want to bring out a view about what would happen if we work for money. These thoughts are based primarily on Satyam and its employees.

When life pushes you hard, you learn new lessons. After learning lessons, it is better to be equipped for the future than regret about it. History teaches you lessons but the people are interested in dates and events that happened rather than the lessons. When Lehman brothers went bankrupt, I did not care so much for its employees or for that matter anything. When it came to Satyam, my heart bled seeing the state of the employees. It just shows that I am so much concerned about my fellow Indians. Continue reading

Don’t work for money

The irony that I see in most of us is that we don’t want to work but we do. The reason we give is for bread and butter. I have quoted that many a times for my own needs. I know it is foolish and stupid to say something like that but I do. This is just the frustration that I have because of lack of money. Once my needs are taken care of, my wants starts and it increases day by day and to fulfill the wants I need more money and one of the easiest ways to make money is work for money. But in reality my whole thinking is wrong, however hard I try to make money by working hard for someone else, I won’t be able to meet my wants only my basic needs will be met. Continue reading
