This is one of my favorite movies. The movie is directed by Mani Ratnam. The movie revolves around a husband and a wife. It is such a piece of art. I think the narration is what makes Mani a good director. The story is very simple. It is a story about a husband who is much different from the rest of the guys and how he wins over his wife.
In Indian culture, a husband is a guy who has got all the control over his wife and he can do what he pleases in the relationship. This is what the situation was and to certain extent is in India. This movie was released in the year 1986 and during that time if someone had thought like this makes me feel so happy about such a kind person.
India was mostly male dominated during 80’s and 90’s and now it is changing. The story of the movie is about a girl who is forced to marry who is actually grieving over her lover’s death. She marries a guy who does not have parents and he is in Delhi and girl is in Chennai. They both move to Delhi and the first gift the girl asks is “Divorce” and the husband fulfills his wife’s wish. The court does not provide divorce within one year of marriage and hence they both stay together. The events that happen within a year are what that makes the movie special. It is not just another movie that you watch. I have watched this movie many times and every time I watch this movie, I go gaga over it. I just wish if not all the guys on earth are like that at least few of them should be like that. I hope I should one among them. It just shows that “Love” is the most powerful on earth. Winning someone with love is the best thing that could ever happen to mankind.
Verdict: Just watch this movie and you will know what love is.

I don’t watch Tamil movies as I cannot follow the languauge. But now I wish I could. I will try and follow through the scenes.

Yes Shashi, this movie is really worth watching. I know you don’t understand tamil but still you can watch it. There are very few scenes which might be difficult to comprehend but other than that I think it won’t be that big a problem. I badly wanted to buy an original DVD of the movie and glad that I bought the same.
